Why consider hiring NEAR for your refurbishment project?
Because we have been active actors in the transformation that our city has been facing in the last decade. It has been a pleasure to design and execute the refurbishment of almost 20 apartments in Barcelona in recent years. They all belong to buildings from the early 20th century and required a complete renovation. In all of them NEAR had the responsibility of dealing with heritage values while updating the property to new standards of lifestyle. NEAR faces renovation projects following three purposes:
TYPOLOGY
We work on the basis of opening spaces and avoiding corridors, creating wide open paths to natural light and the perception of what we call space-continuum in some cases, and continuum boxes in others. You can check both concepts at our projects galleries. Structural interventions are required in most of the apartments to achieve these purposes, and our perfect knowledge of structural typologies and our experience allows us to work on these aspects with absolute normality.
HERITAGE
We work always focused on keeping the flavor of Barcelona in our projects. An apartment is meant to fit with the style of the building it belongs, just as certainly the building does with the city. For this it’s been necessary to work hand in hand with the best artisans left in the city who transmitted us the knowledge and technics that are necessary to understand, preserve or replicate heritage elements such us cornices and medallions, stuccos, hydraulic pavements, mosaic pavements, etc. Understanding the role they have to play in modernity is our responsibility as architects.
CREATIVITY
We combine both previous points differently in each project. Not only the client premises and the budget, but above all the way we use to deal with pre-existing heritage values, makes from each project a new adventure. That is why we consider that each proposal must be unique and each apartment must be one of a kind. This attitude keeps us from following trends. NEAR bets on originality.
